JULY 2014 NEWSLETTER

Summer in San Francisco
July is a perfect time to visit San Francisco! The city offers artsy neighborhoods, breath taking views, and imaginative cuisine. There is no shortage of ways to stay busy in this bustling city. Spend your mornings in one of the many cozy cafes, sun bath on the beaches, enjoy a ride on a cable car, and later, enter the city’s busy nightlife. We have broken down some of our favorite things to do in this beautiful Northern California metropolis.

Attractions: The attractions in San Francisco are endless, so put on your walking shoes and hop on the nearest cable-car because you have a lot to see! Its bright red, very long, and hard to miss…yes it’s the Golden Gate Bridge. One of the most photographed things on Earth, this 1.7 mile bridge can be viewed by foot or bike on the walkway. Next, take a boat across the water to Alcatraz, the legendary former prison of the region. Visit the sea lions and marketplace of Fisherman’s Wharf, do some shopping in Union Square, and stroll around the many culturally diverse museums of the city.

Outdoors: Get outside and experience the beauty of the Northern California outdoors. The Presidio encompasses 11 miles of hiking trails in, around, and throughout San Francisco. The Golden Gate Park is the largest park in the city, where you can walk to gardens, lakes, and museums. If you want to get in some beach time, visit Ocean Beach where you can watch the surfers, play volleyball, have a bonfire, or just relax. Only 12 miles outside of the city, Muir Woods is home of towering California Redwoods which can reach heights of 258 feet and date back 1,200 years.
Food: San Francisco’s dining is diverse and imaginative. World-renowned chefs like Michael Mina and Tyler Florence have opened restaurants in the city, offering organic ingredients and top of the line dishes. Some restaurants have gotten so much hype that they require reservations months in advance, so if you have your eye on a certain dining experience, be sure to reserve it now! Some regional specialties include Dungeness crab, local sourdough bread, It’s-It ice cream treat, and of course, Rice-A-Roni.

Nightlife: With over 1,000 watering holes in San Francisco, you should have no problem finding the city’s nightlife. With most of the historic bars around North Beach and Chinatown, this is a great place to start. The Saloon dates back to 1886, and the Tosca CafĂ© was once a popular hangout for celebrities and intellectuals. For a great happy-hour on the water, try Americano Restaurant and Bar on the Embarcadero at Market St. and then stop by The Redwood Room of the Clift Hotel for an stylish scene with an occasional movie star spotting. If you want to dance the night away at a popular club, visit the South of Market Avenue (SoMa) neighborhorhood.
